Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
